Happy Surf has a reputation problem buried under good ratings. Most guests praise the cleanliness, included breakfast, and rooftop terrace—genuinely solid hostel basics. Staff friendliness gets consistent mention, and the communal vibe works well for solo travellers looking to meet others.
But one brutal one-star review describes being locked out after an 18-hour journey and berated for arriving before official check-in. The reviewer calls it the rudest treatment in three years of travel. That’s either an extreme outlier or a sign the hostel’s hospitality depends entirely on who’s working.
The location in Taghazout centre is reliable, rooms range from tight dorms to proper studios with kitchens, and breakfast alone justifies the stay for many. Worth booking, but arrive after 2 p.m., and maybe confirm check-in policy ahead. If the person Badder was on duty, you’ll be fine. If not, expect friction.

I spontaneously booked a single room to catch a break from sleeping in dorms. The room was very clean and the staff was very friendly and accommodating with extras like late check-in and doing laundry. Thanks a lot!
Nice and clean hostel. Staff were friendly and available (most of the time). Good location. A highlight was the fantastic breakfast, which was included, and the stellar BBQ the hosts cooked one evening. Highly recommended.
We arrived at the hostel around 9 a.m. after an exhausting 18-hour bus ride. We rang the bell several times, but nobody opened the door for about 10 minutes. When someone finally came, instead of a simple explanation, he immediately asked if we were stupid because check-in wasn’t until 2 p.m. He said we couldn’t even leave our bags there, then literally slammed the door in our faces and told us to come back later. In over 3 years of traveling, I’ve never been treated so rudely at any accommodation. Absolutely unacceptable behavior. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
We booked a private studio and got a nice appartment with seperate kitchen, living room and bedroom. It was a pleasant suprise. The only thing about the rooms I would say is that there was only one small window so it was hard to ventilate. But besides that everything was great. Also the breakfast was really good and we loved the rooftop terrace. Would definitely stay here again😋
Loved my stay here, the communal breakfast was so special and really helped meet fellow travellers. The hostel is very clean and spacious set over 5 floors and the roof top is awesome! Really recommend and thank you Badder for making me feel at home immediately.
