The Agadir Mag take

Surf Camp Taghazout splits opinion hard. Families and social travellers rave about the excursions, the food, and the atmosphere—one reviewer called it “perfectly familial”—but almost everyone who came for actual surfing instruction left frustrated. The core complaint: disorganisation. Transport runs late, sometimes there aren’t enough van seats, coaches vanish mid-session, and when swells are flat at the scheduled beach, the camp struggles to pivot. One guest spent six hours idle on their board.

The rooms are clean but basic. Expect no AC; you’ll need to ask for a fan. The view situation is unpredictable. Staff enthusiasm is genuine, though English proficiency varies widely—not ideal if you need clear surf feedback. The food is solid and generous. Water markup at reception is steep. If you’re here for community, excursions, and can surf independently, you’ll likely have fun. If you’re counting on structured instruction, look elsewhere.

The hostel and the staff did a good job, especially the lovely Spanish-speaking chef. The overall organization though, has room for improvement. The surfing experience was ok.

Avoid. This is actually a couple of different hostels and surfcamps working together, but in a very disorganized way. Everything runs 5-10 minutes late. Different people are in charge of the hostel and the surfing. Almost no one speaks good English, and some don’t speak it at all. We booked a room with an „external window” which meant it had a view of rubble on top of other buildings, as well as a group of chickens just outside our room waking everyone up every day starting at 5 am. There is no AC in the rooms and after three days we realized some other guests had fans. In the end we asked and did get a fan from the management, but only after spending two nights in 32*C heat. Our 3-person room didn’t have it because „some guests prefer it and some don’t” (another 3-person room had it originally though). At the hostel, the bottled water is not „provided”—you have to buy it at reception, and the price is twice than at nearby stores; there are signs that you can buy sparkling water and sodas as well, but they are not in stock. Regarding surfing, one day we arrived at the usual beach just as all other surfcamps were leaving because there was no waves there. We tried contacting the management to get transported to another beach, but they said it was too far and so we just spent six hours sitting around on our boards. The evening events are really nice though but disorganized, and they always run longer than scheduled. Fortunately the other guests we met at the camp were amazing and so the trip wasn’t a complete failure. But if you want to learn, practice or perfect surfing—just go to Portugal.

The rooms and bathrooms were clean and tidy, no complaints on the accommodation. The food was alright, sometimes there were issues with the portion sizes and one night at dinner there were barely any vegetarian options because the salad contained fish. I liked the excursions, they were really fun. Sadly, the transport to the beaches and the surfing itself was a bit unstructured. Sometimes there were not enough seats in the van and you had to wait quite a while until they arrived. The surf coach sometimes vanished and for me personally the surfing and the basics to surfing was lacking a lot. Also the boards are not the best. For me it was sometimes a bit difficult to communicate with reception or the people that work there because I sadly don’t speak any French or Arab. However, there were always people that you could contact in case of an issue which I really appreciated. But I wouldn’t recommend it if you want to go there for the surfing experience.

Perfectly familiar maroccon experience. Everybody's just great and really cares for you to have a good time. We booked surfing and meals. Surfing with Youness was really good and we managed to stand up first/second day and even catch a few bigger waves at the end of the week. The meals were delicious, diverse, great maroccon portions. The vibes were amazing, thanks to Hassan who was also making pictures and videos the whole time. All the extra excursions like paradise Valley etc. they charged us no extra for nothing. I was really hyped for the surf camp but the week even exceeded my expectations by far! Shukran guys, much love from Germany. 😊 See you again soon! Kind regards, Lucky
